Heritage Hall Recognized by AIA Huron Valley
The Michigan State Capitol Heritage Hall was recognized with a 2024 Large Building Honor Award by the AIA Huron Valley Chapter. We served as the waterproofing subconsultant on behalf of the design team, which was led by Quinn Evans Architects.
The project involved a substantial underground, reinforced concrete, two-story addition to the historic Michigan State Capitol to improve visitor accommodations and the visitor experience along with additional meeting and functional support space for state legislation action. The addition is fully below-grade with portions well within the site’s water table. Thus, multiple waterproofing solutions were developed in close collaboration with the desired architecture, structural systems, varying soil retention/stabilization measures, and the multiple overburdens of the site, including hard surface plaza assemblies, vegetated green roof assemblies, and integration with expansive skylights for daylighting.
