We are always seeking extraordinary candidates to join our team. Ultimately, the best way to be considered for an opportunity is to apply directly to that job posting. However, if we do not have a current job opportunity that meets your experience, interests, and location preferences, follow these three easy steps to join our Talent Network and set up a Job Alert.
We also encourage you to stay up to date on our latest project work, thought leadership, and new job opportunities by subscribing to WJE News and following us on LinkedIn.
Setting up a Job Alert is a great way to stay up to date on the latest opportunities that meet your specific experience, interests, and location preferences. A Job Alert is an e-mail notification sent via a third-party vendor, Mailgun, when a new job opportunity has been posted to our Job Opportunities page that meets your search criteria.
After you apply online, your resume is sent directly to our recruitment database. A member of our staffing team then carefully assesses your qualifications relative to the position requirements. If there appears to be a good match, a Human Resources team member will contact you to schedule a phone interview.
After the initial phone interview, if it appears that your interests and qualifications are a good match, a Human Resources team member will schedule interviews with staff members in the department where the opening exists. The next interview may be a phone interview with the unit manager followed by face-to-face interviews with the staff and manager of the unit. Our goal is to make the interview process as convenient and as informative for you as possible. We'll conduct reference checks, a drug screen, and a background check upon an offer of employment.

All new employees participate in a two-day New Employee Orientation at our headquarters in Northbrook, Illinois. We also provide training in each unit through companywide webinars, workshops, and conferences. We provide financial assistance to all eligible employees who pursue external educational programs related to their current positions or future assignments. Our engineers, architects, and materials scientists average more than ninety hours of training per year.
Employees are encouraged to participate in professional activities, paid for by the company, to satisfy their individual goals and interests. We provide financial assistance to all eligible employees who pursue formal educational programs related to their current positions or future assignments. All employees are encouraged to participate in our Technical Resource Groups (TRGs), which provide a forum for interaction, collaboration, and sharing of technical knowledge.
All employees are encouraged to participate in our Technical Resource Groups (TRGs), which provide a forum for interaction, collaboration, and sharing of technical knowledge. Each group is responsible for developing technically focused webinars and workshops. Through our in-house research program, we also support our staff's pursuit of a specific technical question.
Absolutely not! Entry-level engineers and architects receive a breadth of analytical and design experience working with licensed professionals, intensive exposure to the various building codes, and many opportunities to review the designs generated by professionals working for other firms.
The percentage of our employees who pass their PE, SE, and RA tests on their initial attempt is far above the national average. This is, in part, because we hire the “best and the brightest.” It's also because of the mentoring we provide our new hires to help them develop a feel for how structural and architectural systems actually perform in service. Our professionals view the building codes as more than just a “cookbook” for designers. We strive to understand the rationale behind the various provisions included in the codes and, in doing so, develop a better understanding of how to properly interpret and apply the building codes. This experience is invaluable as our younger staff members pursue professional licensing.
Experienced Positions
We trust our people to act in accordance with five core values: Consummate Professionalism, Technical Excellence, Exceptional Service, Shared Destiny, and Fiscal Responsibility. These values are integrated into the way we manage projects, run the organization, and reward ourselves. The enthusiasm our people bring to their work is inspiring. Senior personnel are considered experts in their fields as demonstrated by the types of projects they attract, the committees they chair, and the papers they publish. Most experienced hires also find our culture of trust and personal responsibility very refreshing.
Our company has markedly less turnover than other organizations in our industry, and the turnover rate within the senior ranks of our firm is extremely low. Our long-term stability and strength are fueled by our supportive yet challenging work environment. We tackle interesting projects with the tools, resources, and collective expertise needed to deliver better solutions for the built world.
