WJE Welcomes Structural and Materials Engineering Expert Michael Brown

We are pleased to announce that Michael C. Brown has joined WJE as an associate principal in Washington, D.C. He has more than twenty-five years of structural and materials engineering experience and related research for transportation and building structures. Dr. Brown's experience includes materials testing, nondestructive evaluation, structural condition assessment and monitoring, rehabilitation design, and preservation planning. He specializes in bridge preservation, reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures, and corrosion evaluation and mitigation.

Most recently, he was a senior director of structural engineering for WSP USA’s complex structures group, where he performed bridge preservation projects nationwide. His previous roles include associate director of research for the Virginia Department of Transportation, visiting faculty and lecturer of civil engineering at the University of Virginia, and project materials engineer for Law Engineering & Environmental Services. 

Dr. Brown is a licensed professional engineer. He is a fellow of the American Concrete Institute and current member of its Board of Direction and chair or voting member of several technical committees. He is chair or member of several Transportation Research Board committees and member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Association for Materials Protection and Performance, and FHWA’s Bridge Preservation Expert Task Group.
