Palo Verde Project Receives APWA Award
WJE’s work on the hypochlorite trenches at the Palo Verde Generating Station’s Water Resource Facility has received the 2018 APWA Public Works Project of the Year Award in the Environment category for Less Than $5 Million. WJE was engaged to assess and design the rebuild for the Hypochlorite Trenches at the Makeup/Blowdown structures. As part of the assessment, WJE conducted a field investigation using mechanical sounding, half-cell testing, material sampling, and carbonation testing to develop rebuild quantities. Laboratory analysis was also performed, including petrography and chloride content testing.
Based on the results of the analysis, WJE developed general strategies for rebuilding the hypochlorite trenches based on the level and severity of concrete degradation. WJE also provided construction administration services for the rebuild.
