Los Angeles Office Sponsors Concrete Canoe Team
The Los Angeles office was a corporate sponsor this year of the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Concrete Canoe Team. Engineering students designed, built, and raced a twenty-foot-long, 260-pound concrete canoe (named Cosmos) at the Pacific Southwest Conference competition, sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The concrete Cosmos, constructed with Styrofoam and expanded glass aggregates to help offset the density and make it float, enabled the UCSD team to break into the top three this year, winning multiple awards in different categories and placing second place overall.
