Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) is an emerging class of concrete that has the potential to provide numerous benefits for buildings and transportation structures because of its high tensile and compressive strengths, post-cracking ductility, and exceptional durability. These characteristics make it well-suited to addressing the needs of state agencies, owners, and designers throughout the USA. In recognition of the significant potential benefits in the use of this material, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) has funded a research project to foster implementation of UHPC in structural applications, and this research has developed a specific definition of UHPC identified as PCI-UHPC.

In this webinar, Dr. Maher Tadros of eConstruct and Dr. John Lawler of WJE, leaders of the PCI research project, provide a definition of PCI-UHPC, production technology, and structural design criteria. Several project examples are highlighted, and methods of structural optimization show how to achieve economy initially and over the life of the structure.

  • Describe key performance characteristics of PCI-UHPC that differentiate the material from conventional concretes
  • Outline structural design criteria for PCI-UHPC
  • Identify potential structural applications of PCI-UHPC
  • Understand recent advances in the development and implementation of UHPC and how they may correspond with your work

This webinar was originally hosted by Standard Concrete Products, who have been involved in the development of PCI-UHPC mixes and have introduced applications to transportation structures of particular interest in Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.
