Douglas R. Stieve

Experience

Douglas Stieve is a building envelope consultant who specializes in roof and waterproofing consulting, as well as masonry construction. Since joining WJE in 1991, he has provided professional services for more than one thousand buildings and structures. Mr. Stieve applies his expertise to various materials, including low- and steep-slope roofing, as well as plaza deck, vegetative roof, and subgrade waterproofing systems. He also has experience with masonry, glazed curtain walls, natural stone, and exterior insulation and finish systems.

Mr. Stieve has managed the design and construction services for several multimillion-dollar repair and rehabilitation projects and has provided consulting services to architects, contractors, and owners for new buildings.
His work includes some of the largest and most complicated waterproofing projects in the New York metropolitan area. He has also designed the waterproofing systems for both the tallest outdoor observation deck and man-made water feature in the Western Hemisphere.

Mr. Stieve has worked on projects that have won awards at the national, state, and local levels from various organizations, including the American Institute of Architects, Engineering News-Record, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He has authored several articles and technical papers and has lectured throughout the United States about roofing, waterproofing, and masonry construction.
Mr. Stieve also serves as an expert witness and assists in the resolution of construction-related disputes within his areas of expertise.
